What is skin tightening?

Skin tightening is a treatment that, as the name suggests, tightens your skin if it’s become loose or started sagging. As well as being invaluable for common facial blemishes like wrinkles, lines, and hollows, skin tightening can make a significant difference in improving your skin after weight loss. It’s also an effective way of dealing with cellulite.

Skin naturally gets thinner and less taut as you get older. This is often due to the loss of collagen and elastin, the substances in your skin that keep it firm and youthful. As the collagen disappears, your skin develops fine lines, wrinkles, and crow’s feet. Cheeks and temples might begin to look more hollow, and you can develop pouches of loose skin.

Previously, the only solution was to have a face-lift, which involves undergoing surgery to restretch the skin across your face and neck and remove the excess. Now, you can achieve similar results using noninvasive skin-tightening treatments at Blaser Medical.

How does skin tightening work?

There are several methods of achieving skin tightening, but Dr. Blaser uses the state-of-the-art TempSure Envi aesthetic platform. TempSure Envi uses radiofrequency waves to heat up your skin. This has the instant effect of tightening your skin by making it contract.

Longer-term, the treatment also stimulates fresh collagen growth. The heat the TempSure Envi device produces is just enough to cause microscopic damage to your skin, which triggers your body’s natural healing process. The consequence of this is the production of new collagen fibers that plump up your skin.

How is skin tightening carried out?

Skin tightening is a straightforward in-office procedure that doesn’t require any anesthetic. You might be aware of your skin warming up as the treatment starts, but the TempSure Envi device has heat sensors built into it that monitor the temperature of your skin, so you can never overheat.

Your skin might look a little bit red afterward, but this should disappear within a day or two. You don’t need to take time off work or rest after your treatment, just carry on with your day as you would normally.

Skin tightening using TempSure Envi takes around 45 minutes (face) to an hour (body).

How long does skin tightening take to work?

The instant effect of the heat making your skin contract means you can see a difference straight after your treatment. However, the more long-lasting effect is what you can’t see, where your body is making new collagen.

The improvement in skin tone happens gradually because it takes several months for your body to produce new collagen fibers. You should see a gradual change over those few months until the skin regeneration process reaches its peak.
